His philosophy of ministry centers on glorifying God, serving His people, and advancing His Kingdom. He believes in addressing spiritual, emotional, relational, and practical needs. He values relationships, mentorship, and community. He supports families and believes they are crucial to a healthy church. He believes that ministry should be Spirit-led and Word-centered. His philosophy of leadership is rooted in servant leadership, and he sees his role as shepherding with humility and love. He is focused on equipping the saints for ministry, spreading the gospel, and making disciples.

In 1995, Shawn met his wife, Hope, in Hawaii. Hope earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Elizabeth City State University. She is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and a Federal Civil Service Retiree. They have a passion for discipleship and together they are like- minded partners who share a strong commitment to Christ. They have been married since 1995 and in 2003 they were blessed with a daughter, Kayla, who is earning a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at University of Maryland, College Park.
